Harper’s family belongs to Beth Chai Jewish Humanist Congregation of Greater Washington. The service will be held at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville located at 100 Welsh Park Drive, Rockville, MD at 4:30 PM on May 21, 2022. Transportation from the service to the celebration will be provided for Harper’s friends.
A Bat Mitzvah is a moment in the Jewish life cycle that marks the time when a child becomes a young adult and is responsible for her own moral and spiritual decisions. A bat mitzvah also celebrates the link in an unbroken chain of thousands of years of Jewish tradition.
The words Bat Mitzvah literally mean “Daughter of the Mitzvah.” In addition to meaning “commandment” the word Mitzvah also means “connection.”
When a child reaches the age of Bat Mitzvah, she assumes a greater maturity in her connection to her Jewish identity, to Israel and the Jewish people.
